trickAssistance Dog In Training, Trick, visits his namesake, Trick Trucks & Cars!

Trick, who turned a year old in June, went to hang out with the owners of Trick Trucks last week to show them how much he has grown and how well he is doing with his training!  He was looking quite handsome as he posed next to the truck, in the truck and on the new Weather Tech mats we purchased!

PurposeFull Paws celebrated their first Assistance Dog Graduation Ceremony in Martinsburg, WV on May 6, 2017.

There were 7 Assistance Dog teams that walked for their diplomas to show what has been accomplished through their training and special bond!

The graduation felt like a family reunion to everyone at PurposeFull Paws!  We were able to spend time with the families and visit with the dogs we raised and trained to be successful Assistance Dogs.  The graduation ceremony gave us the chance to explain who we are, show what we’ve accomplished, introduce the dogs currently in training and to share our future goals.

At the reception afterward, the photographer took funny photos while we stuffed ourselves with delicious food!

We are so grateful to  ROCs Local Markets for donating our amazing meal of pulled pork barbeque and all the “fixins”, as well as to Martins Grocery Stores and Johnnies- Food, Equipment & Supplies for their tasty contributions!

It was an amazing day for PurposeFull Paws to share the excitement of our success with friends, family and sponsors!  THANK YOU  Nicole Barr Photography for the wonderful photos and  Memories in Motion for the video (to be posted soon!!) that capture the true joy of the day!  Thank you Westview Baptist Church for allowing us to rent the space, Ethan & Katie for running the equipment and to Sylvia, Bruce & Janice for making the reception wonderful!

A BIG THANKS to our VOLUNTEERS & SPONSORS for their help at the event and everything they do to make PurposeFull Paws possible!

Have you ever donated to a charity and wondered where your donation went?  Would you like to give to something specific so you know how your hard earned dollars are being spent??…

…THEN THE PURPOSEFULL PAWS FOOD DRIVE IS FOR YOU!!  EVERY DOLLAR DONATED GOES TOWARD FEEDING THE DOGS!!  Our dogs need dog food for meals as well as treats for training so they can learn their tasks.

In order to use our donated funds wisely, we purchase our bags of dog food and training treats through a distributor at a discounted price- which is such a blessing!  What does that mean to you, the donor?  All you need to do is click on the button on our website and put in the amount you would like to donate toward the food- no heavy bags to buy, carry or drop off at our facility!

Here are some creative ways to join in the fun with the PurposeFull Paws Food Drive:

  1. Office Teams– Get teams together at your office/place of business and see who can raise the most money toward a food donation
  2. Employer match-See if you can get your employer to do a “match” of funds that the employees raise to donate
  3. Sponsor a specific dog– Choose one of the dogs on our website to sponsor and raise the money for their food – for a month or for a few months or even a year!
  4. Get the kids involved– Tell your kids about the Service/Assistance Dogs and how they help people and show them some of the photos and videos on our website www.PurposeFullpaws.org and then give them some chores/jobs to do around the house to earn the money to donate to the dogs
  5. Buy a bag, Give a bag– During the months of March & April when you purchase a bag of dog food for your pet- donate a bag of dog food to PurposeFull Paws.
  6. Get local businesses involved– next time you are at a local business where you frequently purchase merchandise, tell them about PurposeFull Paws and see if they would like to get involved by donating.

If you are unable to give- you can always just get the word out to others that might be able to contribute- every little bit helps and we appreciate all of it!

Our goal total is $5000 to cover all of our dog food & treats for the whole year!

Type 1 Diabetics….PurposeFull Paws needs your help!

PurposeFull Paws is looking for individuals with Type I Diabetes who would like to volunteer for us – right from their own home!  PurposeFull Paws trains dogs for Diabetic Alert.  In order to do this training, we need diabetic samples from volunteers when their blood glucose levels are below 80 mg/dL.

It is super easy to get a sample!  We provide an entire kit of everything you need- including a step-by-step guide of how to gather the samples.

To quickly summarize:

You just check your blood glucose level to make sure it is below 80 mg/dL.  Then you put a small cotton roll (similar to what the dentist uses) in your mouth and move it around to absorb saliva, put it into special containers we provide and put it in your freezer.   Volunteers can drop the samples off at our training building or a PurposeFull Paws representative can pick them up at your home.

While this might sound like a small contribution- diabetic samples are SO IMPORTANT!  We can’t get our Diabetic Alert dogs ready to go with their partners without them.  Even after we have matched one of our dogs with a person who has Type 1 Diabetes, it is difficult for them to provide the number of samples that we need to complete their Diabetic Alert Dog’s training for placement.

Individuals with Type 1 Diabetes- please consider joining our PurposeFull Paws family by volunteering to provide these much needed samples for our applicants in need of a Diabetic Alert Dogs!  If you are interested- please email us at purposefullpaws@gmail.com or call our office at 304-229-0851.  Thank you so much for your consideration!!
