dustyPurposeFull Paws just got a whole lot FLUFFIER!  Welcome puppy Dusty to our PurposeFull Paws family!  Dusty is a Newfoundland who is coming into our program for a special partner who needs help with both balance and some Autism assistance.  He is truly as fluffy and soft as he looks and as sweet as can be!!  He will be one BIG BOY when he is full grown- possibly 150-180 lbs- wow!  Newfoundlands are intelligent,  gentle giants who really bond to their people.  We are very excited about this special boy.  Join us and watch him grow, and grow and grow- LOL!

PurposeFull Paws thanks LONG FENCE for installing the fence for us on the United Way Day of Caring!  There are not words to express our gratitude for all of the hard work that went into our AMAZING fence!    The dogs were smiling as they ran circles around the yard- the joy was contagious!   It is companies like Long Fence that make our communities a better place by generously giving to nonprofits like PurposeFull Paws!  This giving allows us to focus on training more dogs to assist those with disabilities- so the giving just keeps on going!  Scroll through this whole post to see more photos of the fence project.

thanks

thanks This fence will allow us to bring in more puppies and dogs- some from our local shelters and animal control-which gives PurposeFull Paws a chance to work together with other worthy animal causes in our area.  Our dogs will have more freedom to run and exercise so they will be ready to work when we do training each day.  The fence will keep out any other animals that could hurt our dogs and give us a safe place to do our recall training at increased distances outdoors.  The list could go on and on!  It would’ve been years before we could’ve installed the fence ourselves- so we say THANK YOU LONG FENCE- you made a difference in the lives of those in our community with disabilities!img_2938 thanks

THANKS also goes out to the United Way of the Eastern Panhandle for all of the time and energy that went into organizing the 2015 Day of Caring. These hard working employees and volunteers plan months in advance, coordinating with local businesses to allow projects and work to be done that would take months, maybe even years,  for nonprofits & charities to do alone.

Please take a moment to check out the “Doggone Wonderful Pawtners” page of our website- it lists the local businesses that help support PurposeFull Paws.  If you are a local business, we would love to partner with you to do more in our community together!

service dog in training…VISITS THE RANSON POLICE STATION.

Service Dog in Training, Callie, went to visit the police officers at the Ranson Police Station last month to tell them what to expect when encountering a Service Dog in a home and/or out in public.  Well, Callie didn’t really tell them, she just hung out and wagged her tail while our Founder, Amy Stickel, explained some of the ADA Laws and other details about Service/Assistance Dogs.  We really appreciated the opportunity to be an educator and advocate for these wonderful dogs.

PurposeFull Paws wants to do more that just provide Service and Assistance Dogs to those with disabilities, we want to help the public understand what these dogs do, how they are expected to behave in public and what type of access they are allowed to have in public places.  We visit schools, police stations as well as other businesses and events to educate others about Service Dogs.  If you would like us to visit your business, community group, school etc., please email us a PurposeFullpaws@gmail.com.

Other helpful information can be found on the website for Americans with Disabilities Act www.ADA.gov   type Service Dogs into the search box and it will take you to a specific page on the Dept. Of Justice website that addresses the laws about Service/Assistances Dogs for those with disabilities.

Oden and Grace are growing up so fast!!  Check out our adorable, funny pictures- Grace has the most beautiful face- even when she is about to bark!!  Oden is hilarious- talk about BLOOPERS- we caught him in action, but the action wasn’t very graceful!!  We are having so much fun playing, learning and, of course, cuddling with our newest additions to the PurposeFULL Paws family!  We welcome you to join us on our website – watching them grow and learn how to be an Assistance Dog for a special individual with disabilities.  To our dogs learning “work” to provide a service is FUN!  They love to learn things because they get yummy treats,  petting, praise and lots of LOVE!
